This table lists every NCAA Division I volleyball national champion: 56 men’s titles from 1970 to 2026 and 45 women’s titles from 1981 to 2025, with the champion’s season record, head coach, final set score, runner-up and host site as NCAA.com publishes them. The 2020 men’s tournament was cancelled and appears as a placeholder row; the 2020 women’s tournament was played in spring 2021 and is labelled 2020 by the NCAA. A dash marks a field NCAA.com leaves blank, such as a few season records.

The Top Men's Program Won 57% of Titles Before 2000 and 15% Since; Women's Went 21% to 27%
We split each gender's finals at 2000 and, within each era, divided the titles of the most frequent champion by all titles in that era. Men's volleyball from 1970–1999 produced 30 champions from 8 programs, and UCLA took 17 of them (57%). From 2000–2026 there were 26 finals played and 12 different champions; the leader, UCLA, won 4 (15%). The three most frequent men's champions held 83% of titles before 2000 and 42% after.
Women's volleyball ran the other way. From 1981–1999, Stanford won 4 of 19 titles (21%) among 9 champions; from 2000–2025, Penn State leads with 7 of 26 (27%) among 10 champions, and the top three hold 62% against 53% before. Across all 101 finals, 40.6% ended 3-0, 32.7% 3-1 and 26.7% went five sets; men's finals were sweeps 39.3% of the time and women's 42.2%. The coach with most titles is Al Scates (men) with 19.

Sorted by gender, then year descending. The men's championship was the NCAA's only volleyball division before 2012, which is why its history page sits under a national-collegiate rather than a Division I address.

How the Numbers Were Made
Rows were read from NCAA.com's official championship history pages for Division I women's volleyball and men's volleyball, retrieved 13 September 2026. The champion cell 'Team (W-L)' was split into school and record; the final score was split into sets won and lost. Row counts reconcile: 45 women's finals for 1981–2025 with no gaps and 57 men's rows for 1970–2026, of which 56 were played.
NCAA.com marks its pages all rights reserved and grants no reuse licence; the results are cited here as public facts with attribution and the table links to the source pages. Names are kept exactly as NCAA.com prints them.
Concentration is measured within each gender by splitting at 2000 and taking the most frequent champion's titles over all titles in that era. The split year is a round number, not a rule change; moving it a few years either way changes the shares but not their direction. The cancelled 2020 men's tournament counts in no share.
