Poland’s men: the team, its medal record and the scores behind recent titles

Camille Duret

Poland’s men’s volleyball team: 2026 players and coach, major medals, LA28 qualification and a worked guide to its five-set VNL final win.

Poland’s senior men’s indoor volleyball team won both the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) and European Championship titles in 2026. Its EuroVolley victory also secured qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Those achievements follow Olympic silver in 2024 and World Championship bronze in 2025—podium finishes in different competitions, not interchangeable titles. This overview covers the men’s national team, rather than Polish clubs, the women’s team or beach volleyball. Results and player references are current through 4 November 2026.

Coach and players to know

Nikola Grbić led Poland during its 2026 EuroVolley campaign. The following players were prominent in the team’s 2026 medal runs; this is a guide to names and positions, not a complete tournament roster. CEV’s Poland quarterfinal report

  • Wilfredo León, outside hitter: named EuroVolley 2026 Most Valuable Player (MVP).
  • Jakub Popiwczak, libero: selected for the EuroVolley Dream Team, alongside Polish middle blockers Bartłomiej Lemański and Szymon Jakubiszak. EuroVolley awards
  • Tomasz Fornal, outside hitter: VNL 2026 MVP; he served five aces in the final against the United States.
  • Kamil Semeniuk, outside hitter: Poland’s leading scorer in that VNL final with 17 points.
  • Marcin Komenda, setter: his fifth-set service turn included a five-point Polish run in the same final. VNL final report and awards

An individual’s scoring total is not an attack-only number. Semeniuk’s reported 17 points included three scoring blocks and one ace, leaving 13 attacking points. His total does not include points Poland received from American errors. Semeniuk’s final statistics

Poland’s major medal record

These four competitions have separate medal histories. The table does not include every tournament Poland has entered.

Competition Men’s record through 2026
Olympic Games Gold in 1976; silver in 2024—Poland’s two Olympic podium finishes. Olympic history
World Championship Three golds, two silvers and one bronze. The titles came in 1974, 2014 and 2018; the first bronze came in 2025. Title history, 2025 medal report
European Championship / EuroVolley Three golds, five silvers and four bronzes. Title years: 2009, 2023 and 2026. 2026 championship report
Volleyball Nations League Three golds, one silver and three bronzes. Title years: 2023, 2025 and 2026. 2026 VNL report

Recent results: bronze, then two titles

At the 2025 World Championship, Poland beat Czechia in four sets for bronze. It was a recovery after a semifinal defeat, rather than a successful defence of a world title. World Championship bronze report

On 2 August 2026, Poland retained the VNL title by beating the United States in five sets in Ningbo, China. VNL final report

In September 2026, Poland defeated France 3–1: 31–29, 25–19, 20–25, 25–16 in the EuroVolley final near Milan. Poland finished the tournament 7–1 in matches, with its only defeat against Bulgaria in pool play, and earned the direct LA28 berth. Reading Poland’s five-set VNL final win

The VNL final finished Poland 3–2 USA: 25–21, 23–25, 25–27, 25–23, 15–10, with every set score written from Poland’s perspective. Poland won the opener, fell behind 1–2 in sets, then won the fourth and fifth. Official match report

The headline counts sets won, not total rally points. Sets one through four target 25 points with a two-point lead; the fifth targets 15, still requiring a two-point lead. That explains both the extended 25–27 third set and the shorter 15–10 decider. FIVB rules, sections 6.2–6.3

The box score adds another distinction: more attacking kills did not mean victory. A kill is an attack that directly wins a point. USA led that category 65–59, but Poland led in scoring blocks 12–8 and aces 8–4, while receiving more points from opponent errors. Official scoring breakdown

The reported categories reconcile with the set-score totals:

  • Poland: 59 kills + 12 scoring blocks + 8 aces + 34 USA errors = 113 points.
  • USA: 65 kills + 8 scoring blocks + 4 aces + 29 Poland errors = 106 points.

Poland’s advantages outside attacking kills offset its six-kill deficit. The seven-point aggregate margin describes scoring output across the match; winning the deciding set secured the trophy.
