MAAC volleyball is now Metro volleyball: how to follow the scores

Understand the MAAC’s Metro Conference name, its 12 volleyball teams, 2026 tournament format, and how match scores and standings differ.
MAAC stands for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. As of July 1, 2026, the league uses the name Metro Conference. If you are looking for MAAC volleyball standings or championship results, the current official pages carry the Metro branding. This is the same conference under a new identity—not the Mid-American Conference, abbreviated MAC. The league announced the transition on May 28, 2026. Official rebrand announcement
For volleyball readers, the useful distinctions are between a match score, a conference win–loss record, and the set scores underneath them.
Which teams play Metro volleyball?
As of October 14, 2026, the league’s women’s volleyball standings list 12 teams:
- Canisius
- Fairfield
- Iona
- Manhattan
- Marist
- Merrimack
- Niagara
- Quinnipiac
- Rider
- Sacred Heart
- Saint Peter’s
- Siena
That differs from the conference-wide membership count of 13: Mount St. Mary’s is a conference member but is not listed in the volleyball standings. Use the sport-specific list rather than assuming every member participates in every sport. 2026 volleyball standings · Conference membership
How to read a MAAC volleyball score
These are NCAA women’s indoor matches: the first team to win three sets wins the match. Sets one through four are played to 25 points; a fifth set is played to 15. Every set requires a two-point winning margin, with no point cap. A completed rally awards a point whether the serving or receiving team wins it. NCAA 2026–27 rules, Rule 8
So 3–0 means three sets to none, not three rally points to zero. Likewise, a 3–2 result means the match reached a fifth set.
The 2025 MAAC championship final provides a useful example. Fairfield beat Rider 3–0, but the set scores show that the sweep was not uniformly comfortable:
| Set | Fairfield | Rider | What the score tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 26 | 24 | Extra points were needed to establish a two-point margin. |
| 2 | 25 | 18 | Fairfield won by seven points. |
| 3 | 25 | 12 | Fairfield won by 13 points and completed the sweep. |
Those scores are recorded in the official championship report. Fairfield’s recap adds that it trailed 20–14 in the opening set and saved a Rider set point before winning it. The headline result hides a substantial comeback. Fairfield match recap
Adding the set scores gives Fairfield 76 points and Rider 54. That describes the aggregate scoring margin; it is not how the match winner is determined. Sets won decide the result. For the broader scoring explanation, see how volleyball scoring works.
Conference records are match records—not set records
In the standings, Conf or Metro records count conference matches won and lost. Overall includes nonconference matches too. CPct. is conference winning percentage:
Conference wins ÷ conference matches played
For example, on October 14, 2026, Sacred Heart was listed at 5–2 in conference play, giving it a .714 conference winning percentage: 5 ÷ 7, rounded to three decimal places. Its 12–7 overall record produced a different percentage, .632. Neither number describes its share of sets or rally points won. Official standings
The league seeds teams by regular-season conference winning percentage. For a two-team tie, the policy starts with head-to-head results, then head-to-head sets won if the teams split their conference matches, then head-to-head point differential if necessary. Thus, two teams each winning one meeting does not automatically leave them equal: a hypothetical 3–0 win and 2–3 loss gives one team a 5–3 edge in sets. Further steps apply if the tie remains. The 2026 championship and official results
As of October 14, 2026, the Metro Volleyball Championship is scheduled for November 17–23, with the top six teams qualifying. First-round matches on November 17 pair No. 4 with No. 5 and No. 3 with No. 6, hosted by the higher seeds. The No. 1 seed hosts the semifinals and final on consecutive days, with that institution selecting the dates. Fairfield returns as defending champion. Championship schedule and format
